An open-source software for creating 3D graphics? Sounds pretty cool... I wonder if I could get some time to learn about 3D rendering. Smile

Well, if we can make this a 3D game instead, that would be really something. I guess I'll try to read some stuff on it later.

By the way, it also supports that Bullet Physics engine you posted on the other topic, right?

I use blender.
I definitly think we should use sprites instead of going 3d, but I am up for a mix of the 2. But very limited 3d.

but as a tool we can still use it to render 2d sprites, and sprite sheets, and w/e.

A mix of the two? Such as creating 3D characters and 2D scenarios that just look 3D? Or 3D scenarios and 2D characters, like paper mario? Maybe 3D-animated cutscenes? What do you suggest?

Like trees could be 3d, buildings, basically anything tall. maybe something like this GTA 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8tvADi-uA8

It really depends on the veiwing angle we want though. GTA is straight over head, while most RPGs are not.

Anyways, 2d or 3d, blender will be excellent for both. I just prefer 2d.

I think it would be better

if we make the cities and dungeuns 3D

and the char, mobs and npcs an animated(Cartoonie) 2D

and the camera would be free camera can move anywhere the player want to move it

As I was told, Blender is the program that Pixar uses, they released it to avoid paying courses, and start hiring people who learnt how to use it by his/her own. Remember also that Debian was originally created by Pixar members xD

I installed it once, but I couldn't do much, I used it for a while and then I got bored (LOL) but that's why I don't even know how to use it xD.

About the game, maybe we could make scenarios with this program, because characters would be very complicated to make. Remember we have to make every accessory and fit it in the character, and with all that work, maybe we could lost focus on the story.

Ya, I think there is some truth in the Debian thing, but blender was made by a company called NaN (not a number), then they went bankcrupt, and the community bought it and released it under GPL. Pixer has alot of there own custom software, if have no idea if bledner is part of there pipeline though.

Maybe instead of the GTA's straight up view, we could use something more like pokemon for DS:

It's simple 3D for the scenario.

Oh, by the way, don't you think it's gonna be waaaay too bizarre if we let the camera move freely while using character sprites? You know, we can't make a sprite-set for every degree the camera can spin, so in some cases the character would be using the walking forward sprite but actually moving a bit sideway...

That system is used in a game called Ragnarok Online. Maps are 3-D and characters 2-D.Characters have 4 "pictures", which are every sight the character has if you see it from the diagonals. So, when you're rotating the camera, the character has the same picture, until you passed one of the four diagonals, when the character's image changes instantaneously xDDD

Ragnarok char uses some more sprites (North, North-east, East, South-east, South, South-west, West, North-west), but some mobs uses 4 directions sprites (North, East, West, South) and they face the way the camera was pointing. It's something that some people hate, some love.

I like it, but don't thing we should do something that mixed up.

Laughing Let's use it then! Since Kaoro don't like it, it must be fun!

Just kidding.

I like Ragnarok Online, that's the cause that I like their engine, but it's kinda freak indeed.
