What do you guys think of this:

Temporal Travelers, that go on Times (books) to make their own story, taking the place of great heros (or villains) of the past. They can shift times only a limited amoung of times until they finish the story that was choosen (that way we can make they stay in the plane more time, giving their the flavour of that epoch).

Another idea was one that I see on the movie "Jumpers". The players was the same kind of ability, differing that they can shift throught dimensions. In "Jumpers" they could travel the space, but here we could travel space, planes and time (not all at same time, I think).

Another one was the entity idea. Each player is under some kind of entity that rule a universe (multiverse theory). They only know that they can change everything on his/her own dimension by using an avatar that the entity give then and changing it's story. The story only go change if it was the entity will. Each entity has one behaviour, making it's universe unique and easy or difficult to go throught.

Someone has another idea? Let's add then here and make it BIG!

Well, if you say so...

What I was suggesting back on the other topics was making it based on books. Each book tells a tale, but they are unfinished (there are blank pages in the end of each one). When a character reads that book, he or she goes INTO that story, which is a certain plane, at a certain time.

Inside the tale, the player acts as a character, interacting with the NPCs and scenario to advance the story. Upon writing the end of the tale (completing quests for so), the player receives another book, or books, to the next plane.

The finished book, however, stays with you, and you can go back to that plane at any time. Also, if you want to to change to another book in the middle of a tale, you will always return to the place where you stopped at that book.

This goes interesting because we can have two different tales about the same plane, just on different times. This way, maybe you need to return to the past and change something on it's story to complete a quest on the future.

The time thing was something that I was wondering.

With that we can make quest that need another one to be complete. Something like, save the young lady on the past to receive the book for the next tale in the future.
Is it that you're thinking, right?

Not only that. Maybe you finish a tale in a plane, and later, on another place, you find a book to that first plane, just that this one book tells a story that happens on the future of that plane, and when you go there you see how the changes you did in the past alterated the future.

We could even have some quests on a tale that can only be completed upon acquiring objects on tales you're already finished. Like going to a story on the past of a plane to get an object that may not exist on the current one. Or getting a medicine that only exists on certain planes.

Remember that by reading a book you enter it's story, not it's plane. It's not like books are artifacts that teleport, it's more like you're living inside their stories.

But these are all suggestions, of course.

It could be great to start from the end. Why do they have to go to the past? Well, maybe because future is collapsing and you have to change it Wink
That's why I'd like to start from the apocalypse, and then going to the past, just to have an excuse for travelling in time, and to make it more interesting. I got that idea from Star Ocean, it was so cool to be in a futuristic plane, and then get lost in a non-evolved planet.
The MMO could get a lot of sense, because you know why you're doing what you're doing xDD

Starting from the appocalypse on an MMO game? It's getting a lot of story, isn't it?

Maybe it's something linked with the books. Maybe there are organizations that want these books destroyed, and others want the books to themselves for profit. And your role in the story is attempting to stop these groups through travelling to other tales and gathering the books before they do.

This would work really well with the appocalypse thing if, at one of the stories later on the game, those who want to destroy the books stole them from you (trapping you on some plane), and started destroying them one by one. Of course, there must be a way to get them back, this is an MMO game, after all.

So, what do you think?

This story-based MMO is what we need to do. The lack of story is something we are used to see on MMOs, and not many people make the difference.
I think the book itself, represents the destiny, why do YOU have your own book? Because you're the only one who decides your own destiny. I think the book itself is the centre of the story, it "shows" that you're the one who makes your own path.
Destroying your book? Mmmm... if the book is your past and your future, destroying your book is the same as erasing you, someone with no past and no future doesn't even exist.

I'll stop playing SQEX's games, they're consuming my mind xD

My idea of the books was that they'd transport you INTO it's story, but we can do that too. Although in that case the user would one have one book, and in the former we could give the player a considerable amount of books.

The central idea of the book was based on FFTA, your book has written all you've made, and it also goes writing what you're doing. So that book is your path/destiny/fate/whatever xDDD
Well that's the way I see it, remember we're just throwing ideas Wink.

That's more like FFTA2, but I like it.
I believe I got the idea of books that teleport from Myst...

So, opening discussion: Should we use a single book, that is linked to the character, his past and his fate; or multiple books, that transport the player inside tales on other planes?

BOTH (¿?)

The idea of a single book could make that more "dramatic", *Oh no!!! he bunt my boo~* and gets erased (makes me remember TWEWY xD)

Making multiple books, could give far more "adventure" to the game, you are in an adventure, to get books, which will get you to new adventures xD (makes me remember FF X-2 LOL)

Both ideas sound great, I wouldn't have ant problem with any.

It really does ^^
I'd love to erase a player like that, but we can't, this is an MMO.
The best we can do is erasing an NPC. ¬¬

Oh, btw, talking about NPCs. In most MMOs, they are static (have a constant position and map). I was thinking that maybe, for enchancing the story of the game, we could make them change their position and sprite as the story goes. Ok, this would cause some players that are on the same map to see different NPCs, but I don't really see a problem with that.

I like both idea.

Something like:
You're a Book Guardian from some kind of ancient organization that defends the books since their creation until the nowdays. You have your own book, sealed in the agency (modern name for "ancient organization"), but you don't know anything about it. You must start in the agency fixing little "bugs" in the history done by the powerfull organizations that desire the books for their own gain. Once you advance in the grades (something like military grades) of the agency you start to pick up really heavy missions (two or three books in a roll for example). One really kicking ass mission could be your own book recovery (it can be a class upgrade mission, just a sugestion).

Book Guardians really hit me hard in the head. I think it's a good name, not for the Game itself, but for a class or profession.

What do you guys think?

Agreed.

Bizarre, but you know, I'm a lazy one. I've been writting a book for a game project. I already have really good things there (something like 23 low-cast-god-like begins for example, with all the upper classes and stuff). But I think that will come out really... Classic, you know?

I want something NEW and UNIQUE! I LOVE the books theme, but can't go further in it without turning everything in a mess. I've a epic-crush. Also love that Kicking-ass-epic-musics that the guys put in the MMO's around there. But... Anyone here already played S4 League? WHAT ARE THESE MUSICS MAN? It really rocked! And I luve the clotting style, weapon and skill system and most important CHARACTER system (you can change your character in the "middle time" of the game played in two halfs).

Hmm, maybe we could come out with something better (with is not that difficult is it? Razz ).

xDDDDD

It sounds like final fantasy VIII, having a military organization.

Could we discuss it via MSN or Skype? Then we could post the chat conclusions to let other users see it (we're not the only members in the forum).
We could post day and hour, just to have as many people as we can ^_^

And that drug thing was only a joke xD don't take it seriously because I'M that way, I like making jokes xD

One question/
Do players interact with each other even in different stories

I like the ideas of these books and lets make it more multiplayer
like two players one want to kill the master of a dungeon and one wants a crystal which cannot be taken until s/he kills this monster
so they help each other as parties
or just they have the same story and they ust help each other like we seen in FF

If they are in the same tale (you can go back to previous tales at any time by using the books), you can talk to them directly. But we can create something so that the players can talk to each other even in different tales.

About the dungeon thing... Well, this is an MMO game, interaction between players is fundamental. That kind of situation where the players have to gather in order to complete quests and stuff is great for online games. Let's add a bunch of those XD
